Learn how to add dynamic fields to document templates in Nexudus.
Dynamic fields can be added to Word document templates through preset merge fields in the document template editor.
Documents generated using the template prior to adding or removing dynamic fields will remain unchanged.
Adding Dynamic Fields to Document Templates
- If the side menu is not visible, click
.
- Click CRM > Document Templates.
- Click the document template you want to edit.
- Click the Launch Template Editor button.
The template editor opens another tab in your browser. Your document can take a few seconds to load. - Click where you want to add the dynamic field in your document template.
- Click the DATA tab and then click Insert Merge Field.
- Select the relevant merge field from the dropdown list.
- Repeat step 5 and 6 as needed.
- Once you've added all your merge fields, click the FILE tab and click Save.
You've successfully added dynamic fields to your document template.
Make sure you test the document template by adding it to a mock proposal. This will help you see if all the dynamic fields display the right information.
Removing Dynamic Fields from Document Templates
If you added a merge field by mistake, you cannot delete it like regular text with the backspace key of your keyboard.
- If the side menu is not visible, click
.
- Click CRM > Document Templates.
- Click the document template you want to edit.
- Click the Launch Template Editor button.
The template editor opens another tab in your browser. Your document can take a few seconds to load. - Click the merge field you want to remove from your document template.
- Click the DATA tab and then click Delete Field.
- Repeat step 5 and 6 if needed.
- Once you've removed all the relevant merge fields, click the FILE tab and click Save.
You've successfully removed dynamic fields from your document template.
Formatting Dynamic Fields
For dates and numbers fields such as the price of a contract or the contract start date, you may want to format the dynamic fields to match your local formatting rules.
- If the side menu is not visible, click

- Click CRM > Document Templates.
- Click the document template you want to edit.
- Click the Launch Template Editor button.
The template editor opens another tab in your browser. Your document can take a few seconds to load. - Right-click on any merge field and click on Field Properties.
- Enter your custom format in either the Numeric Format or the Date / Time Format field.
DatesUse yyyy for year, MM for month and dd for day.
For example yyyy/MM/dd or yyyy-MM-dd.Numbers
Use 0.00 to format numbers with 2 decimal points.
- When you are ready to save your document template, click the FILE tab and then click Save.
Your document template was successfully customised. You can close the editor tab in your browser and return to the Administrator Panel.
Make sure you test the document template by adding it to a mock proposal. This will help you see if all the dynamic fields display the information in the right format.
